About Charlie Phllps

Pendulum is a love letter to time. The latest full-length from
songwriter Charlie Phllps finds traces of memories and emotional throughlines of the artist’s life illuminated by vibrant, engulfing atmospherics.

Growing up idolizing masters like Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, Phllps would go on to further his craft at SUNY Purchase before finding himself gigging in small clubs in NYC. A familiar tale, but the artist would soon take
the leap, quitting his job at a restaurant in Brooklyn and dedicating all of his time to the new songs he was writing.

That material comes to comprise Pendulum, the 8-song LP from Phllps out August 10th, 2018 via self-release.

Pendulum’s journey in time started in 2015, under the tin roof ceilings and white walls of Phllps’ pre-war South Park Slope walkup. There he sat at his vintage mint-green Smith Corona typewriter with his beloved Martin acoustic guitar and
began working on a new batch of material. The result was musical, honest, and deeply personal; the struggle to find love, self, and grab ahold of the swinging hands of time.

On the album’s lead single, “Memory,” the artist shares, “When you’re at your lowest point in life, confused and down in a ditch, can you walk out of the fire? Can you find something worthwhile in the lows, and not just the highs. What are we really searching for besides just a memory?”
